Buying website traffic may be a good way for promoting your business or product initially, but it is certainly not a strategy to be implemented on a long term. You need not buy website traffic forever, for in case the cost of buying web traffic increases suddenly, it would end up eating into your profits.

The best way to build web traffic is to make sure you receive organic search engine traffic to your web page and there are simple steps that would help you achieve that.

Keyword Research: while preparing to optimize your pages for web, keyword research plays an important part in optimizing and promoting your pages. Choosing the wrong keywords can make you go in the wrong directions. You can make use of your PPC (Pay per click) campaigns to determine the most effective keywords and based on them optimize your web pages for these. A good starting point is to have a look at the competition and understand what they are doing. Make use of the free Google AdWords keyword tool and get keywords suggestions, get it to analyze the competitor’s web page to get key word suggestions. You can repeat the exercise for several competitors and then compare the results.

Keyword Selection: it is very often found that the keyword choices made when you buy website traffic is different from keywords chosen for optimizing your pages. Specifically, more general, phrase matched keywords are used for PPC campaigns like ‘website promotion’ which may be alright for PPC promotion but certainly difficult in competitive sense to feature in the organic search engine rankings. So in effect you need to find suitable phrases that contain the primary keyword and doesn’t have much competition but at the same time attract a reasonable amount of traffic. Google keyword tool can be made use of, by entering your primary keyword, and Google will provide you related keyword phrases along with the monthly traffic figures. You need to look at the ones with smallest number of competing pages, with anything under 10,000 being good and above 30000 being not good. Once you find a suitable phrase move over to Page optimization.

Page optimization: is the easy part of the whole process. All you need to do is to work your chosen keywords into the webpage. Begin with the page title and try to use catchy lines about the product and include the keyword phrase along with any associated words which are often searched in conjunction with the primary phase. You should also write a catch meta description containing your keyword phrase only once. Include your keyword phrase in the opening and closing paragraph and a few times in the body of the text. Don’t go overboard and make it look completely natural. Make sure you use your keyword phrase at least once in h1 or h2 headers and in case you have pictures on the webpage, do use your keyword phrase in any Alt tags. Use the phrase containing keyword in the link text of links from other web pages that point to your web page.

These techniques help you reduce click costs and improve traffic retention and gets you started on the way to getting free organic traffic to your website.
